Katy Perry Goes Orange For L'officiel Cover

Katy Perry Goes Orange

Image for Katy Perry Goes Orange For L'officiel Cover 1

Our favorite hair chameleon, Katy Perry, has rocked almost every color in the rainbow by this point. Her latest venture is this bright orange hue, which she showed off on the cover of L’Officiel. We’re assuming that these windswept orange locks aren’t a permanent look for Katy, but they’re fun nonetheless! The copper tone actually works perfectly against Katy’s pale skin; we find ourselves wishing that she would rock this look for real! What do you think of Katy’s orange color?

Step: If hair is dark, you’ll have to prelighten to a blonde color.
Step: Ask your colorist for a coppery orange hue. If you want to avoid looking too orange, like Katy, ask for a lighter shade with more blonde tones.
Step: Use KMS Color Vitality Shampoo and conditioner to preserve shine.

Hair Color Inspiration: In To The Blue

Image for Blue Hair Inspiration 1

Blue hair, who knew! Katie Perry, the summer’s unofficial queen of color, has made what was once Grandma’s favorite shade into a burning hipster trend. It may appear unnatural, yet this season’s range of pastel hues has opened the door to a new wave of creative dyes. By bleaching, you can create a canvas to glaze to almost any shade. Or you can dip-dye or use ombre effects to create pockets of pastel blue that accent the shape of the cut. Read on for tips on going blue…

Step: This is not the color to do at home! It has a tendency to go green if put on top of the wrong color base. Basic color theory rules apply –– i.e.: if you put blue on top of yellow you get green. Be sure to ask your colorist on the best way forward.

Step: A salon colorist should pre-lighten hair, then glaze to tone to blue. Alternatively, for splashes of blue, expect the color to be painted on by hand.

Step: Pastel shades fade fast. It’s a good idea to wet shampoo less, and use refinish dry shampoo to dry clean hair. You should also avoid too much heat-tool styling, and if you do use irons, make sure to prep hair with thermal protector first.

Or for a less permanent effect use KEVIN MURPHY COLOUR BUG.

This smoldering pic confirms her beguiling aesthetic. A flowing, waving center-part in rich caramel brown, her long-layered hairstyle is the perfect fit for her come-hither glare. To learn how to create it, see below.

Step: Ask your colorist for a rich caramel brown with a few lighter pieces around the face frame. For the cut, classic long layers are the perfect fit.
Step: At home, cocktail Kerastase short mania and forme Fatale and work through strands, roots to ends.
Step: Blowdry with large round brush for volume and curvy shape.
Step: Spray Gloss Appeal through mid-lengths and ends and use a curling wand to add extra tousle.
Step: Finish with Spray a Porter for extra definition.

The Punk Movement Continues...

Image 8-18-13 at 11.59 AM
The popularity of DIY owes a lot to the early punk movement. While nowadays the term punk is applied to teens with mohawks and safety-pin embellished ensembles, the original movement created a new aesthetic that moved against mainstream ideas about fashion, spawning a look that defied style norms. Androgynous haircuts, chalking, tousled styling, and disconnection are great ways to integrate punk into your style.
Step: Asymmetric cuts have an imperfect, DIY quality that adds edge to any style. For the most dramatic version, play around with extreme length contrasts, like pairing long hair with micro bangs or super short sides with a long, mohawk-inspired top. Keep edges piecey for a lived-in feeling. The new hybrid pixie bob is a perfect example of a modern take on this look.
Step: High contrast blocks of color create a bold, gritty feeling. Ask your Lattouf colorist to create a placement that enhances your overall shape or embrace DIY and use hair chalk to create temporary color effects at home. Our fav is KEVIN.MURPHY COLOUR.BUG NEON
Image for The Punk Movement Continues... 2
Step: Use low sheen, texture enhancing products to get a grungy finish. KERASTASE POWDER BLUFF dry shampoo is great for holding high volume styles and creating a matte finish. KERASTASE SHORT MANIA will give detailed separation and mussed up appeal to short styles and the NEW KERASTASE LAQUE DENTELLE will give flexible hold and grit to gravity defying shape.

Keira Knightley And Her Hate For Posing For Pics...

At Lattouf Hair & Day Spa we are big Keira Knightley fans, mostly because the British actress is unassuming and possesses a low-key style. Even when she's covering the September issue of a glamorous fashion magazine, Keira's all "real" I'm just a regular gal who hates having my picture taken, I promise!"

Knightley landed the coveted September issue of Harper's Bazaar UK, swamped by lavish labels, Gucci, Lanvin, Chanel, Balenciaga and L’Wren Scott. But while her dramatic cover pose channels a rather serious style, Keira talks about her own fashion habits with the magazine, especially when it comes to Fashion Week:

This sounds ridiculous but I don’t actually like having my picture taken and I tend to avoid anything where I have that... I would totally sneak in the back! And sit in the back row. I love seeing [the collections] as they were presented. Because it is art, when you see it. And the couple [of shows] that I’ve been to, they were absolutely extraordinary. - Keira Knightley

We ask why wouldn't you want your picture taken when you look this good?

Best Vamp @ Oscars 2016

Best Vamp: Kim Kardashian

Yummy mummy-to-be Kim K gave oodles of va-va voom with her vampish look; namely a sleek, glossy mane, lashings of lashes and a berry-stained pout.

Image for Best Vamp @ Oscars 2016 1

Keep reading for our step by step on how to get kim's look...

Step 1: Rub a few drops of KEVIN MURPHY YOUNG.AGAIN between your palms, then run your hands down damp hair, from mid-shaft to ends, and comb through.

Step 2: Rough-dry your hair by tousling it with your fingers until it's 80 percent dry.

Step 3: Apply KEVNIN MURPHY GRITTY BUSINESS and part your hair and secure the top layers with clips on both sides. Starting with the loose hair in the back, pull one-inch sections forward with a large, round, mixed-bristle brush as you dry from roots to ends. Unclip the top layers and continue drying this way. (We recommend LATTOUF ROUND BRUSH #3)

Step 4: Once your hair is completely dry, rub a pea-size amount of KEVIN MURPHY EASY RIDER between your fingers, then apply onto ends and over any short, broken hairs around the crown.

Step 5: To finish and lock in place mist with KEVIN MURPHY SESSION SPRAY.

Miley Cyrus's Drastic New Do

Miley Cyrus & The Drastic Short Hair Cut

Image for Miley Cyrus's Drastic New Do 1

Last night Twitter went berserk as Miley Cyrus took to the medium to show the power of transformation. “Tick-tock,” she teased, while sharing a picture of locks ready to be chopped. Presently, the inevitable happened. The 19-year old siren posted a picture of her new platinum blonde pixie undercut. No longer flush with the traditional features of feminine beauty, this is a dramatic change for Miley. They’ll be many critics of the cut, but like Emma Watson, Michelle Williams, and other leading celebs, this is a great way for her to radially change her image. The crop gives her a punk-inspired edginess that we’ve never seen on her before, while the long top with shortness underneath means she has a lot of freedom to play with shape, style, and texture. She can create a side-sweeping bang, slick it all back, or go for a disheveled ‘undone’ look.

Step: Apply to damp hair KEVIN MURPHY Anti Gravity Spray to give weightless volume and texture. Blowdry hair whist running fingers through to create movement.
Step: Apply KEVIN MURPHY Powder Puff to the roots this will create a mattifyed effect and give volume to the roots.
Step: Otherwise, ramp up the lived-in disheveled feel by finger-styling with KEVIN MURPHY Easy Rider. Focus on a slept-in look with contrast, movement, separation.

The Irish singer, 19, revealed a new dark 'do at the iTunes Festival performance at the Roundhouse in Camden London last week.

Though some fans were shocked by the star's makeover, it seems that Niall has been considering changing his look for some time.

'My natural hair colour is nearly black,' he told reporters back in June.

'So I'm thinking about heading towards that kind of thing, because I've been doing this for a while.'

X Factor's Simon Cowell won't be pleased. In April he banned Niall from losing his boyish blond mane.

'[Niall] put in a text to him asking if he could change his hair colour. Simon was straight back on to him with a short reply: "No way,"' revealed an insider.

Wonder what Simon will say now?

We are loving the change, the hue makes Niall look much more mature.

Cascading Curls At The Emmy’s

Many of us watched the Emmy’s last week and while most were anticipating the award results, we were really paying attention to the hair. Our favorite look was the maxi dress and cascading curls combination that some of our favorite starlets wore. Gretchen Mol and Claire Danes chose an elegant deep side part while Heidi Klum and Christina Hendricks opted for off center parts. Click through for steps on how to create this glam read carpet look in your own hair.

Gatsby Inspires Men

The dapper style of the roaring twenties has returned, with a little help from Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, and it seems men can be just as inspired as women.
Since Leonardo DiCaprio appeared in the character of Jay Gatsby showcasing an ultra-styled, slicked back hair style epitomising the polished 1920s style. This has seen the sales of men’s hair pomade, wax and gel soar.

For best results we recommend KEVIN.MURPHY STICKY BUSINESS

Big influence: The fashion of the film is having a huge effect on sales of vintage-inspired garments on the high-street Celebrities have also fallen for Gatsby’s slicked back style with stars such as David Beckham and Daniel Radcliffe choosing groomed retro styles.

And it’s not just men who are inspired by Gatsby, sales of self-grip small and medium hair rollers are up 24 per cent as women aim for the finger-curled glamour of Daisy Buchanan played by Carey Mulligan.
Our guests love to follow the latest trends and The Great Gatsby is proving to be a huge inspiration for both men and women.

Gatsby Hair Inspiration

With The Great Gatsby lighting up the sliver screen, many of this year’s hair, fashion, and beauty trends relate to the Roaring Twenties, which means it is a great time to try romantic pin curls, especially for special summer occasions. To use this piece of 1920s inspiration, mid-length locks work best. If that’s your style, artfully constructed pin-curls and finger-waves can give you a contemporary version of this classic retro vibe. For our styling tips, click the notes.
Step: Prep hair with protective thickening lotion. Take a deep side parting. Section hair from the top of the crown to the ear.
Step: Now take half-inch horizontal sections starting from the top. Subdivide those horizontal sections into three or four vertical sections. Now use an iron to create curl in these sections.
Step: The iron size will determine the tightness of the wave. Use a 3/4-inch iron for a definitive, flapper-inspired 1920s look. Or, for something softer and less curly, a bigger barreled iron is better. Either way, wrap hair on the iron going towards the face. Do this throughout the side, creating rows until you run out of hair.
Step: Pin curl clip these curls to head; spray with primp working spray; allow to cool; release clips.
Step: Brush out with a flat brush and form the wave with hands.
Step: To create an updo out of this texture, simply pin up the back with bobby pins.

Lattouf Support Australia's Inaugural Meat Free Week

Image for Lattouf Support Australia's Inaugural Meat Free Week 1

Australia’s inaugural Meat Free Week, 18-24 March 2016, the campaign has already raised more than $50,000 in pledges through animal-loving Aussies who have signed up and are taking the 7-day challenge.

Image for Lattouf Support Australia's Inaugural Meat Free Week 2Meat Free Week aims to raise awareness of factory farming and to reduce meat consumption (of all meat, including fish). Factory farming is a large-scale industrial operation that raises animals for meat (and other animal products such as eggs and milk) as if they’re machinery. Their pain and distress is disregarded in the pursuit of profit. It is the number one cause of animal cruelty today and causes the most suffering to the largest number of animals in Australia – more than 500 million every year. The animals most impacted are chickens and pigs.

Australians are among the biggest meat eaters in the world. With an average consumption of 120kg per person per annum, according to a report released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, we eat almost three times as much meat as the world average.

Image for Lattouf Support Australia's Inaugural Meat Free Week 3

Meat Free Week co-founder, Lainie Bracher, explains: “It’s not just factory farming that we need to consider, but also the impact of excessive meat consumption on animal welfare in general, as well as the environment and our own health.” Melissa adds: “We know it’s a big ask to cut back something you love to eat, but when people know the facts, we’re confident they’ll commit to eating less meat and make the choice to buy ethically produced meat.”

The campaign has attracted a wide range of supporters who are embracing the cause including media identities Laura Csortan, actor Krew Boylan and comedian David Smiedt. Leading chefs Simon Bryant, Belinda Jeffery, Matt Wilkinson and Bill Granger are among many who have provided a range of delicious meat-free recipes for the campaign. Chef and ambassador Simon Bryant explains: “There is a way to eat meat without contributing to the unnecessary cruelty of factory farming. By purchasing ethically sourced meat, eating less of it or perhaps giving it a miss all together we have the power to make a lot of lives so much better. As custodians of this planet it is our job to make these changes
happen by asking the right questions and rewarding farmers who follow best practice with fair prices for their work and produce.”

Image for Lattouf Support Australia's Inaugural Meat Free Week 4

Lattouf Hair and Day Spa are supporting the cause and have donated 4 prizes to help drive donations. Show your support at http://mediumhairfashions.blogspot.com/ and help someone who is going without to a little pampering with Lattouf Hair and Day Spa.

The majority of the money raised from taking part in Meat Free Week will go to Voiceless, the animal protection institute. Voiceless is a not-for-profit think tank that drives reform and helps build the animal protection movement by offering grants and prizes, creating influential networks, promoting informed debate and conducting research to expose legalised cruelty. A grant awarded from Voiceless assisted with this project.
