The Punk Movement Continues...

Image 8-18-13 at 11.59 AM
The popularity of DIY owes a lot to the early punk movement. While nowadays the term punk is applied to teens with mohawks and safety-pin embellished ensembles, the original movement created a new aesthetic that moved against mainstream ideas about fashion, spawning a look that defied style norms. Androgynous haircuts, chalking, tousled styling, and disconnection are great ways to integrate punk into your style.
Step: Asymmetric cuts have an imperfect, DIY quality that adds edge to any style. For the most dramatic version, play around with extreme length contrasts, like pairing long hair with micro bangs or super short sides with a long, mohawk-inspired top. Keep edges piecey for a lived-in feeling. The new hybrid pixie bob is a perfect example of a modern take on this look.
Step: High contrast blocks of color create a bold, gritty feeling. Ask your Lattouf colorist to create a placement that enhances your overall shape or embrace DIY and use hair chalk to create temporary color effects at home. Our fav is KEVIN.MURPHY COLOUR.BUG NEON

Step: Use low sheen, texture enhancing products to get a grungy finish. KERASTASE POWDER BLUFF dry shampoo is great for holding high volume styles and creating a matte finish. KERASTASE SHORT MANIA will give detailed separation and mussed up appeal to short styles and the NEW KERASTASE LAQUE DENTELLE will give flexible hold and grit to gravity defying shape.

Nicole Richie did punk right with a shocking grey bouffant at this year's Met Gala. The designer had teased an Instagram snap of some hair dye earlier in the day, but her high-volume hair was completely unexpected. A cat-eye and dark purple lipstick pulled the look together.

The Met Gala is one of the most stylish and glamorous events on the calendar, and always brings out a star-studded mix of celebrities, designers and fashion industry insiders. Social media-savvy stars have been sharing bits and pieces of their Met Gala prep — this year’s exhibition theme is Punk:

And nicole certainly took that to the next level. What are your thoughts on this grey upstyle love it? or hate it?
